QuikTrip and Borden's Dairy have again teamed up with Tulsa Public Schools for the 2007-08 school year to encourage elementary students to read more books.
"QuikTrip is a strong advocate for providing the best education for our children, last year we redeemed over 10,000 coupons for a free cookie from our QT Kitchens and a pint of milk from Borden's Dairy. We hope that number doubles this school year," said Chet Cadieux, President and CEO of QuikTrip.
"We would like to thank QuikTrip for their continuing participation in the Cookies and Milk reading initiative with Tulsa Public Schools," said Dr. Michael Zolkoski, Superintendent of Tulsa Public Schools.
"The vision of the project was to celebrate and encourage a life-long love for reading. I believe the vision was met; evidence of that was an increase in reading and excitement over the Cookies and Milk program! We are looking forward to more good books, along with more cookies and milk," said Jennifer Gripado, Principal at Park Elementary.
"My teachers and students loved the QT coupons for a cookie and milk. They read so many books and were thrilled to get such a yummy reward" We used the quote of "curl up with a good book" and have some cookies and milk from QT, said Cindi Hemm, Principal at Eugene Field Elementary School.
Tulsa Public School officials have created the criteria for the reading reward. When each student meets the assigned criteria each quarter, the school will present a coupon for a free QT Kitchens cookie and pint of Borden's milk that can be redeemed at any Tulsa area QuikTrip location.
"Reading is a critical part of a child's education. If we can get every elementary student to read a few more books each year, it can make a significant difference in their future academic achievement," said Cadieux.
