TULSA, Okla. (June 15, 2018) – River Parks Authority will produce Tulsa’s 43rd annual Independence Day celebration with Folds of Honor FreedomFest presented by QuikTrip on Wednesday, July 4. The event will feature two family-friendly venues: Veterans Park, 1875 South Boulder Avenue on the east bank, and River West Festival Park, 2100 South Jackson Avenue on the west bank. An evening filled with music, kids’ activities, prize giveaways, event merchandise, concessions and more will culminate with spectacular pyrotechnics as nearly 7,000 aerial fireworks soar above the 21st Street Bridge over the Arkansas River. The event is free and open to the public.

QuikTrip, River Parks Authority and the sponsor organizations are proud to highlight the outstanding work of the Folds of Honor Foundation, an Owasso-based charity with a mission to provide educational scholarships to the spouses and children of fallen and disabled U.S. servicemen and women. The Foundation’s motto is “Honor Their Sacrifice. Educate Their Legacy.” and to that end, Folds of Honor raises its visibility through numerous outreaches, including its local Patriot Day Golf Tournament. QuikTrip is an ongoing philanthropic supporter of Folds of Honor, so when the popular convenience store chain assumed title sponsorship of the fireworks event, it was a natural fit to promote the work of Folds of Honor and our dedicated U.S. military.

Both QuikTrip and Folds of Honor recognize the value of this special partnership. “As a family-oriented company, QuikTrip is thrilled to be part of FreedomFest again this year,” said Mendi Parker, QuikTrip’s manager of store marketing and graphics. “Sponsoring this event is a highlight for us each year. It is fun for our families, and we hope it is a great event for many other families throughout Tulsa.”

Ben Leslie, Folds of Honor national development vice president, echoed QuikTrip’s enthusiasm, “It’s truly an honor for FreedomFest to be named after our organization,” he said. “The opportunity to celebrate our country’s freedom aligns with our mission of providing scholarships to families of fallen or wounded service members.”

Entertainment at both venues will kick off at 5 p.m., including children’s activities and live music. Leading up to Tulsa’s largest fireworks display, Tulsa favorite Corey Kent White returns as the headliner, taking the Veterans Park stage at 8 p.m., while the Red Dirt Rangers will be featured performers at River West Festival Park at the same time. Festival Park patrons are encouraged to gather near the main stage following the fireworks to enjoy an encore performance by the Red Dirt Rangers as the crowd begins to thin.

“FreedomFest is a Tulsa tradition like no other,” said Tonja Carrigg, River Parks’ director of community relations. “It’s the best ‘backyard’ BBQ of the year as family and friends gather on the riverfront to share this uniquely American holiday amid picnics, games, and – of course – the best fireworks ever!”

Always eager to add new elements to FreedomFest, Carrigg pointed to a fun addition to this year’s festivities: free face painting of patriotic emblems, with local face painters stationed in both venues to share their artistic talents in red, white and blue.
